They say a true love story never ends. It all begins in a fleeting moment, and over time it grows, lasting for eternity…(let’s all let out a collective ‘awwwww’).
Romance and weddings were in the air during Paris’ Haute Couture Fashion Week with beautifully crafted wedding gowns being prominent on the catwalk. Haute Couture is all about dreaming; it’s about making others dream…
A bride’s ultimate dream is to wear an elegant or avant-garde designer wedding gown, but in saying this just a select lucky few would ever be able to use the Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris as the perfect opportunity to shop for their dream wedding dress. Very few brides can buy a one-of-a-kind Chanel wedding gown without even blinking; in fact, very few brides-to-be could even score a front line seat at the show let alone the designer wedding dress. This leaves the rest of the mere mortal females, myself included, playing fantasy-wedding dress up, or in my case also ‘fantasy bride’.
I too am one of those mere mortal girls who flicks through the pages of Vogue and Grazia, dreaming of my fantasy (adult) princess dress, and this year, I’m happy to say that my favourite designer, Elie Saab, didn’t disappoint. Dior, Ralph and Russo, Elie Saab, Chanel…they’re the fundamental ingredients to creating the dream designer wedding look.
Because let’s face it…every princess bride needs tulle, and plenty of it!
The standout at the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week had to be up-and-coming supermodel and Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily Rose Depp, who was Karl Largerfeld’s muse and the Chanel bride this season. A highly coveted role, the Chanel bride is the dream of all models, established and aspiring alike. With elaborate ruffles and exquisite shoulder and back detailing, this peony inspired wedding gown in dusky pink is a real showstopper…
Here are some Haute Couture wedding gown picks from the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week that really stood out…one can but dream, right?
Channeling an ancient Greek Goddess, this spectacular Elie Saab golden sheer wedding gown is an embellished beauty perfect for romantic bohemian brides.
White lace and an overwhelming cascading feather skirt, this streamlined Ralph and Russo wedding gown is for the princess cathedral bride.
I absolutely adore Dior’s elegant Haute Couture champagne coloured tulle wedding dress. A romantic designer wedding gown fit for the romantic bride.
An overdose of tulle, you can always count on Giambattista Valli to create larger than life spectacular designer gowns, although I think this tiered yellow wedding gown is a little OTT and resembles more of Big Bird than a blushing bride.
Lily Rose Depp, the Chanel bride this year, models a peony-inspired sugary pink wedding gown. I’m loving the belted bodice look…is this really the number one fantasy designer wedding gown?
