Michael Kors’ Power Bitches

‘Power bitches’ – I love it! This is what many have described Michael Kors’ 2017 collection in New York.

The All-American woman is traditionally Michael Kors’ muse. It’s not uncommon for us to see Michael Kors’ models grace the runways with classic tailored clothes such as the traditional camel coat and tailored suits…the 2017 NYFW was something a little different.

Enter the ‘Power Bitch’!

The endearing girl next door has transformed and morphed into a woman with a harder edge – the power bitch!

Again, with Michael Kors’ 2017 NYFS show it was blatantly obvious that the 80s are back with a vengeance…

Think NYC in the 80s, think excess, think power, think fun. This was when those said ‘power bitches’ first came into existence and the lingering disco ghosts from the 70s were still influencing NYC’s nightlife and fashion scene.

Michael Kors women were sexy. They were restrained. Thigh high slits were prominent, and looked amazing on the world’s sexiest plus-size model, Ashley Graham.

Thought metallics were out after the NY’s celebrations? Think again! There was plenty of glitter, shine and sparkle! Punk meets 80s glam – the clinched in waists with oversized belts were particularly 80s. Although despite the gold leopard dresses and plunging jumpsuits, this was still very much a Michael Kors collection – in other words there were still plenty wearable ethereal colours in more the more neutral shades of beige and grey.

I’m thrilled to see the re-emergence of oversized bags, which to be honest, I haven’t ceased carrying anyway.

One thing I didn’t agree with however was Michael Kors use of fur – it’s what I refer to as unethical fashion. While other high profile designers are turning their backs on fur and opting to use high quality faux fur, fox and mink fur still featured heavily in Michael Kors’ 2017 NYFW collections…

The new Michael Kors woman is a woman who most definitely likes to crack the whip – she’s a no-nonsense kind of girl, a bit like me, only I don’t wear real fur – I’m a pro at faking it!

The classic Michael Kors’ camel coat had a makeover and featured 80’s like sleeve splits. The power bitch pointed toes also didn’t go unnoticed!

Tweed, leather boots, wide belts and double breasted dresses, it’s what 80s style was all about.

Too much camel? Somehow this just works, albeit, Michael Kors’ choice of fur is controversial – it’s time the label practised ethical fashion.

Ashley Graham is my new plus-sized model hero. She’s stunningly gorgeous and proves that anyone can wear thigh-high splits as long as they have the right confidence.

Metallics, fringes and pointed court shoes…an 80s style enthusiast’s dream.

I love this classic 2017 Michael Kors’ outfit – chic and wearable, minus the fur trim.

Make a roar with leopard! Animal print is bigger and bolder than ever!

Classic and cool – the perfect winter office power outfit for women!

Hoo[s, don’t forget the hoops, and remember the 80s is all about matchy-matchy. Purse, shoes and dress, the works!

I personally love this outfit and would definitely wear this contrasting camel and black tailored outfit to work! Somehow even the long-sleeved Dynasty gloves work too!

If you don’t have enough shimmer in your life, there’s always a 2017 Michael Kors metallic jumpsuit to wear!
