Aghhhh I’ve been working so hard at the gym and I’ve been more mindful than ever when it comes to what I’m putting in my mouth…and after seeing a photo of me yesterday at a family event, it would seem that I’ve plateaued (or am I being super critical of myself?). My weight loss goals have appeared to have come to a sudden standstill. Frustrating to say the least…summer’s on the way, so I’ve got to up my game!
After putting on weight during my tumultuous marriage and breakup, I vowed to myself never to turn into a little tubby again. Not for anyone else, for me! Screw dates and guys…I don’t want to spend hours in vain at the gym to please the opposite sex, I want my weight loss for me, and me only!
I guess we’ve all been there. If you’ve been anything like me recently, a lot of your focus would have been on fitness and the gym, oh and eating mindfully (sometimes). You most likely saw progress, temporarily…I know I did, but then BOOM! It all stops, just like that, without any warning!
My weight loss goals and progress have seemed to lull. I haven’t done anything different. In fact, I think I’m doing even more these days. It’s super annoying….but at the same time, it didn’t taken me long to realise that I, along with millions of other gym goers out there, have hit that almighty weight loss plateau.
My weight has always been my Achilles heel. Even when I’m in great shape, I’m never satisfied, but then again is anyone ever really happy with their body and the way they look? It didn’t help that some small guy with a small mind commented on my body, referring to it as ‘squishy’ amongst other things! Little did he know that it was a similar comment back when I was 17 that sent me down a path of eating disorders and dangerous dieting!
So I’ve come up with a plan of attack, and it couldn’t come at a better time. I’m on holidays, so I can really change things up and try and haul my ass out of this weight loss plateau and get summer and beach ready!
Here’s how I’m going to win with my weight loss goals!
EXPLORE FOOD – BE MORE ADVENTUROUS
I love food. Who doesn’t? Good food is great.
I do have a penchant for sweets and chocolate, oh and cheese, but as far as crap unhealthy food goes, that’s about it. Fast Food and deep fried food just aren’t my thing. I haven’t eaten a McDonald’s burger for years – they’re gross, but I’m going off topic again!
Going to the supermarket these days can be really overwhelming. There’s an abundance of food categories to check out and explore. I could literally spend hours and pounds in the supermarket given the opportunity, thankfully my time is limited.
My excuse is quite valid. Probably like many other people trying to lose weight – I don’t have any time! But if I pre-prepare and become uber organised with meal prepping, I may just be able to tweak my eating habits and reach my weight loss goals before the summer – they do say that 80% of your weight loss is down to diet after all.
I’ve recently stumbled across a really cool and inspirational site with many colourful and non-boring healthy food ideas. Love & Lemons will most certainly be my go-to health food site for a bit of motivation.
I must admit that I fell in love with the colourful health food pictures as well. My mind immediately went into Instagram mode…maybe this is how I can push myself even more! Get prepared to be inundated with my own health food Instagram pictures!
JUMPING OFF THE SCALE
I know too well that I’m obsessed with numbers. But if I actually sit down and think about it, I know I’m being silly…weight is just a number, and scales are evil, very evil!
Weighing myself makes me feel down. When I don’t see the dial on the scales go down by much, I feel let down and disheartened, and God forbid if my weight, for some reason or other has crept up. Yeah, I do know that muscle weighs more than fat, but scales can still be psychologically damaging.
So, I’m going to measure my weight loss goals by clothes…
MIXING UP MY GYM ROUTINE
I’m a creature of habit when it comes to the gym. I love, and I mean love cardio workouts! The cross trainer is my personal favourite…I could spend a few good hours on that alone.
The fact of the matter is that I’m probably not seeing any weight loss results as much anymore because I do the same damn workout day in day out.
I’m switching up my gym routine. I’ll throw in a few strength training sessions into the mix to build more muscle mass, and I’ll even try to get to a few more classes.
FOLLOWING WEIGHT LOSS GOALS INSPIRATION
Social media and the Internet, for all its negatives, do have some massive pluses.
I’m doing more Internet research on weight loss and getting into good shape. Following some great health food bloggers, nutritionists and exercise experts on Instagram and the like helps me when it comes to achieving weight loss goals and kicking ass.
Stay tuned, I’m going to share a little bit of my weight loss goals journey with you…
